Zeiss Batis 85mm f1.8 for Sony E Mount Rolling Review - Insights from Shitty Fashion Photographer, Eli Samuel.

I replaced the Sony 90mm Macro f2.8 G Master with the Zeiss Batis 85mm f1.8 for Sony E Mount. I have a great love for the 90mm Macro, I have spoken about my observations and opinions on this wonderful lens before but just to recap here is my thought on the 90mm.

Sony 90mm Macro f2.8 G Master.

  • Very sharp, actually too sharp in my view. For what I shoot the bokeh is harsh and feels nervous. It is not a serious problem, I am splitting hairs here but it is why I switched.
  • Super fast focus.
  • Accurate.
  • Lighter than you think.
  • Amazing image quality and colour.

“Very sharp, actually too sharp in my view.” — Eli Samuel.

The only reason that I changed was the out of focus areas, it is super small change but I like the rendition better on the Zeiss.

A Little About Me. #bio #nerd #aspiration

My name is Eli Samuel, my passion is to empower artists to bring a little bit more beauty into the world one image at a time. I am a little nerdy, a little crass and an endless chatterbox. Blogging is my way of giving back. I read the posts published by the photographic heroes regularly like Steve Huff, Ken Rockwell etc. I thought to myself, stop being selfish! My dream is to grace the cover of Vogue Italia. I am coming for you Vogue! Help me get there.

Vertical Video in Adobe Premiere Pro - Insights from Shitty Fashion Photographer, Eli Samuel.

TUTORIAL FILES: Vertical video template https://www.dropbox.com/s/48j5pwl1zoeotay/VERTICAL%20TEMPLATE.psd?dl=0

Geez, Instagram you are messing up the status quo! Vertical video is a fact of life now, spending a $10,000 video rig on its side is just about the most undignified thing you can do but ah what can you do. Adobe Premire Pro has some major difficulties in being able to process the vertical video but here is the fix. Step by step.

Drop the ‘Vertical video template’ into the time line.

It will black out the edges. When you’re finished and ready to export go ahead.

Once you are on the export screen, go to the top left corner and click source, click the crop symbol, and select 9:16.

Swap your weight and height. Then export. Done.

Happy Instagramming people.

AF-S, a old bad habit. Can a pro Trust his camera? - Insights from Shitty Fashion Photographer, Eli Samuel.

Never in my over 10-year career have I ever trusted a camera.

All pros, myself included, always select only one focus point, set AF-S and get on with it. We acquire focus on the point we desire from the centre, single point and then recompose. There are many issues with this technique but it is a sure way of never missing unless your subject moves too fast of course. The biggest problem with this technique is the attention this takes away from the artist. With the Sony A7Rii, I can focus on the only thing that matters, composition.

I have been slow in adapting to many of this cameras many technical advantages, but the transfer over to AF-C is massive. Again can I pro trust his camera? With this camera, yes! Within limitation. This is a massive turning point for me! Watching those many little green squares dancing all over the screen or the delightful big square when it finds a face/eyes is something to behold. Try it guys, it is rad.

Another huge step in toppling the old habits from the increasing archaic DSLR days.
